This album will not be a reunion of the 2005 Memphis-based energy pop group Crash Into June. But it could be nearer than ever to an occasion like this. Your academy was began by Johnny Norris, the bassist of Crash into June. Johnny Norris was joined by guitarist Chris Gaffford and drummer Dan Schmake, each of whom appeared on the band’s album “Blind to Blue.” Norris, Gafford and Shumake be part of singer Brandon McGovern to type Your Academy. The Academy’s self-titled debut consists of 10 songs from the basic energy pop traditions of Big Star, The Pousies and Nada Surf. Your academy efficiently combines guitar jungle with high-energy pop rock in “Heaven Knows,” “Starlight,” and “Why Don’t We.” As with “Our Love Matters” and the full-bodied acoustic ballad “Bluff City,” you’ll discover that poppy, barely much less ampy sounds are nice. Your academy gained’t crash in June 2.0, however with so many spectacular albums, this quartet will make a reputation for itself as your academy.
