Kevin Smith will begin production of the “Clark III” this summer.
The 50-year-old filmmaker is pushing for the long-awaited sequel to 2006’s Clarks II, confirming that “almost everyone in the cast” will play their role again when work begins in August. ..
Jay Muse and Smith themselves will return as Jay and Silent Bob, with Brian O’Halloran (Dante), Jeff Anderson (Randall) and Rosario Dawson (Becky) all joining.
In the next movie, Randall, who suffered a major heart attack, asks a fellow clerk to work on a movie that will immortalize his life at a convenience store.
“The great thing is to continue. To continue is to go far. To go far is to return,” Smith said in a statement.
“Thanks to Lionsgate, almost everyone in the cast who started everything can go back to where they started everything.
“And for the first time since I made my first film in 1993, I’m filming the entire flick on location in New Jersey as a tribute to both the charm of the film and its storyteller’s wit and madness.
“A few years ago, Dante and Randall made me a filmmaker, so now it’s time for me to regain my favor.”
Lionsgate, meanwhile, is “excited” to work on the “next chapter” of the movie series.
Eda Cowan, who oversees the studio project, added: “The Clarks movie is a viewer’s favorite, and many of Kevin’s movies such as Dogma, Red States, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot continue to please Kevin’s enthusiastic fans. The beloved part of our library.
“I’m excited to introduce the next chapter of the’clerk’story to movie fans around the world.”
