For the T-Shirt, the creative used never seen before images of the award-winning singer taken by Ntsoma. The photojournalist developed a friendship with the late singer when she worked for The Star, she later became her unofficial photographer.
Taking to social media, Don Design introduced ‘Magasman’ a collaborative effort from Monday to Monday and the Lebo Mathosa Foundation. Don Design shared images of the T-shirts on Instagram, which were modelled by rappers Moozlie, Yanga Chief, two-time SAMA nominee Oscar Mbo and artist Mr Allofit. “This is an ode to one of the most impactful artists of our generation. Proceeds to benefit The Lebo Mathosa Foundation and its operations,” he wrote on Instagram.
The Lebo Mathosa foundation was launched in 2016, 10 years after her passing, it is a collaborative effort between the family and Showbizafrica. The foundation’s focus is on campaigns that focus on women and youth empowerment initiatives. Don Design’s collaboration with the foundation is a perfect match as his T-shirts form a part of his Women’s Month celebration.
Speaking to SowetanLive, the producer explained “This collaboration was created at the end of 2019, but we were trying to figure out the best way to do it because of the restrictions caused by the pandemic. So, we got in touch with her family to ask for their blessings, so we continued on her legacy,” Don Design said. “We didn’t just want to get an average photo that was on Google, so we got in touch with Neo Ntsoma. She shot this collection of pictures just before Lebo passed on. “She was supposed to celebrate Lebo’s 30 birthday with a calendar and some of poetry that she used to write. So that never happened, and we wanted to bring that to life using clothes.”
