Johnny Marr praised Isaac Brock as the “greatest lyricist” he has ever worked with.
Smith’s legend praised Modest Mouse’s frontman, who worked with the band from 2006 to 2008, and began working with him on the 2007 We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank.
He told Stereogum: [Modest Mouse], And I liked being in the band.
“There was brotherhood there to this day. Probably the best time of my life. Some supernaturally good shows. I liked my role.
“That’s what happened in my life that I’m grateful for forever. And Isaac Brock is the best lyricist I’ve ever worked with.
“I’ve seen him write great songs, make them better, and then make them better again.”
The 57-year-old musician also opened a bond he shared with the people he worked with, describing it as “in a trench.”
“When you interact with people, you have loyalty. Brotherhood is born.
“You go into trenches with people, and you have these intensive days where it means a lot and there are many at stake.”
Meanwhile, there may be another chapter for Johnny as part of Modest Mouse, after Johnny previously suggested that their collaboration was “not over”.
Isaac responded in June, stating: [it’s an unfinished chapter].. I love to form a band with Johnny. It’s fun of f ***** … “
And the guitarist replied on Twitter: “The food of thought. Modest Mouse was the best time of my life. Still a great record, a great show.”
