Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass has released a video to accompany his reworked version of the iconic Ramones song “I Wanna Be Sedated” in celebration of him getting the Covid-19 vaccine. The song titled simply, “Vaccinated,” has been unexpectedly turned into a Covid vaccination anthem of sorts and I don’t know about you, but I definitely know what I’ll be playing when I finally receive the jab.
This isn’t the first time the comedic rock duo covered a well-known song to spread a message across the world. Remember last year when they released a cover of The Rocky Horror’s classic “Time Warp” to get people to vote? Genius.
For “Vaccinated” Gass changed the words of the punk classic to encourage people to get their vaccination jab. “Twenty, twenty, twenty-four hours from now/ I’m getting vaccinated/ Waited so long that I wrote down this song/ I’m getting vaccinated,” he sings.
The duo even got others involved in the music video like Evanescence singer Amy Lee, Danko Jones, Toto’s Steve Lukather and a bunch of others. Even Jack Black (Tenacious D’s other half) makes an appearance dressed in doctor’s scrubs while dancing with a pair of giant needles.
As more and more people are getting vaccinated, large concerts and events are slowly making a comeback (South Africa where you at?!) so hopefully, a light-hearted tune with an emboldening message like this one can get more people vaccinated so that we can return to festivals and large concerts.
