“Titane” won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Director Julia Dukrnau has become the second woman to receive a prestigious honor and the first woman to win alone, thanks to her work in a controversial film. Have sex with a man and a car.
This year’s Cannes Jury Chairman Spike Lee mistakenly announced the Palme d’Or winner early in the gala on Saturday (17.07.21).
He was told to announce the “first prize” in French, but he misunderstood that he intended to read the first category of the list and read the Palme d’Or instead.
He said: “I apologize for ruining it.”
The ceremony continued as usual, after which Sharon Stone was added to Spike and “Titanium” was officially announced as the winner.
When she went on stage to accept her prestigious honor, Julia said, “It was perfect tonight because it was incomplete.”
The filmmaker of “Do the Right Thing” later tackled his rant and admitted that he was “messed up.”
He said: “I have no excuses. Hey, I’ve done it. I’m a big fan of sports. It’s a guy at the end of the game at the foul line, he missed a free throw, or a guy Is like missing a kick.
“So there is no apology … I was very specific to talking to the people of Cannes and telling them what I apologize for. They said they would forget it.”
The second most prestigious honor at the festival, the Grand Prix, was tied between Juho Kuosmanen’s “Compartment No. 6” and Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s “Hero”.
The Best Director Award went to Leo Carax for the musical “Annette” starring Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver.
“The Worst Person in the World” star Renate Reinsve was selected for Best Actress, and Caleb Landry Jones was awarded the Worst Actor Award for her performance in “Nightram”.
